Verdant

For the record, I don’t know how to spell. I’m so glad I live in a world with spellchecker. Because otherwise I’d be eaten in the wild when I misspelled verdant?

Rhododendron (Not)

I went for a walk in the woods with John this weekend, and the whole time we walked through this marshy spot, I kept hearing this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson, which we sang in high school chorus:

In May, when sea-winds pierced our solitudes,
I found the fresh Rhodora in the woods,
Spreading its leafless blooms in a damp nook,
To please the desert and the sluggish brook.
The purple petals fallen in the pool
Made the black water with their beauty gay;
Here might the red-bird come his plumes to cool,
And court the flower that cheapens his array.
Rhodora! if the sages ask thee why
This charm is wasted on the earth and sky,
Tell them, dear, that, if eyes were made for seeing,
Then beauty is its own excuse for Being;
Why thou wert there, O rival of the rose!
I never thought to ask; I never knew;
But in my simple ignorance suppose
The self-same power that brought me there, brought you.

Rhododendron

Best part about this story is that I kept assuming this was a rhododendron. Except then I googled it. These are totally not rhododendrons, by the way.

At least the seed packets I bought for my garden said what they were on the packages…

Fell in love with a boy this week…

Oh, what a strange, wonderful, surprising week. I was reminded how great my family is. I found out what a strong person I have the privilege of knowing. And, I inadvertently fell in love with a boy.

This one should really be on a t-shirt. And I will hunt you down for the royalties if I see it…

Make housework into a game…then your kids will do it for you!

In related news, Ethan loves drying dishes! He actually complained when I didn’t give him enough.

Emperor Frog

Ethan and I were reading a book last night where a frog had a cameo. Ethan said, “Eww! A frog!”

Really, what six year old says Eww to a frog?

Emperor Frog

This post has also questioned my ability to spell “emperor.” Thank goodness for the automatic spell check.

Pride Hearts

So you’re walking along, and you see a row of white bleeding hearts. Obviously, that needed to be fixed…

Much better. :)
