Stairway
Posted in Man-made, Picture on 08/12/2009 08:00 am by ifferjennFrom walking around Cambridge looking for the Friendly Toast, though this was after dinner when everyone was much happier and full of the best home fries ever. No touching up on this one. I realize it’s a little blurry, as it was a slightly longer exposure and I don’t walk around with a tripod, but check out the sky!

Cool photo. It would have been better if lots of people had been going down the stairs when you took it.

Hmm… I kind of like the emptiness to it, but I see what you mean. Particularly if I had a nice tripod with me, and got the streaks of people, without the individual person shapes.

If you wanted to capture the emptiness of it, then a tripod would’ve helped. I know that my digital camera is horrible at taking nighttime photos, with all of the streaks that the lights create. A super clear photo of an empty staircase (which a tripod would help capture) wouldn’t have the appearance of movement that slightly blurry lights do, thus not spoil the effect of stillness that lends itself to emptiness.
